Student Recruiting

One Mississippi State University (MSU) graduate is a full-time staff members of the University's Admissions and
Scholarships Office and resides in the metro Atlanta area. She is responsible for recruiting the state of Georgia. We support
their efforts by hosting recruiting events, the annual Send-Off Party for prospective and incoming students, by sending
representatives from the Atlanta Chapter to attend college fairs, and by doing our part to welcome new Bulldogs to the
family and encouraging those considering MSU through letter-writing campaigns.
Our student recruitment committee is seeking input for our personalized, letter-writing campaigns this year. In coordination
with the area admissions counselor, we're committing to sending a handwritten letter to every high school student from
Georgia admitted to the University, as well as reaching out to potential students and their parents.

What can you do to help?

* Contact committee chair Blaire Wilson with contact information of high school juniors and seniors that might have
an interest in MSU. Include as much detail as possible, such as potential majors the student might be considering,
extracurricular interests, and any other details that we can use to help attract that student to State.

* If you know parents of potential MSU students, invite them to one of our events and provide your personal experience
story of how much you love MSU.

Maroon Mail Volunteers

Our Atlanta Chapter's student recruiting team supports the Alumni Recruiting Network
as Maroon Mail Writers. These volunteers write letters to prospective MSU students from the state of Georgia.
Each year, the team averages about 650-700 letters to graduating high school seniors. If you are interested in volunteering
to write letters, please contact Blaire Wilson. Also A special THANKS goes out to the 2021/2022 Volunteers:

Why Mississippi State

MSU has seen enrollment from the state of Georgia quadruple over the last five years. Georgia is third behind Alabama and
Tennessee for enrolling students at MSU that are non-residents of the state of Mississippi. MSU has a diverse student body
comprising 22,986 students from every state, all 82 counties in Mississippi, and 75 foreign countries. Nearly 30 percent of MSU’s
fall enrollment is composed of minority students, and 19 percent are African American. A total of 50.4 percent of students are
male, with 49.6 percent female. MSU has the highest retention rate in the state of Mississippi with 85% of the freshman retuning
for their sophomore year. The graduation rate is above the national average at 61%. The University has over 300 student
organizations including political and religious organizations, intramurals, the Shackouls Honors College, and Greek life.

Admissions

The application for enrollment is available on 8/1 of the student’s senior year. A housing priority number is then assigned
based on when the student applies. You can learn more about MSU and access the online application here.

University Scholarships

There are two University scholarship deadlines that apply to all freshman, 12/1 for Distinguished Scholarships
and 2/1 for General Academic Scholarships. The deadline for scholarships that apply to transfer and community
college students is 6/1.

Atlanta Chapter Scholarships

The Atlanta chapter annually awards scholarships to Georgia residents attending Mississippi State. A student must
have been accepted to MSU and have the online scholarship resume submitted by the priority deadlines to be eligible for
any scholarship. Learn more about the Atlanta Chapter Scholarship here.

Mississippi Society of Georgia Scholarship

The Mississippi Society of Georgia annually awards a Georgia resident a scholarship to attend one of Mississippi's
colleges or universities. Information on the scholarship can be found here. The deadline for 2023-24 is April 30th
